Case Study: Empowering one of Southwark’s most respected community organisations

The Challenge

Downside Fisher Youth Club is one of Southwark’s most respected community organisations.

Founded in 1908, it has been a lifeline for young people in Bermondsey for over a century, offering vital services including boxing, football, and personal development for socially excluded youth.

Our Response

OCO Connect has built a long-term relationship with the club and is proud to be supporting its major renovation project in several ways.

This includes writing and submitting funding bids to secure resources for refurbishment and expansion, sponsoring events such as a boxing show to generate income and raise visibility, and carrying out ongoing maintenance works to improve the building environment.

This project demonstrates what social value should truly look like — not just ticking boxes, but embedding lasting support at the heart of the community.

For OCO Connect, working with Downside Fisher Youth Club is about building a partnership that creates long-term opportunities, strengthens community resilience, and ensures that young people in Bermondsey continue to have a safe, supportive place to grow and thrive.

The success of this partnership lies in trust and collaboration.

By working closely with the leadership team at Downside Fisher Youth Club, OCO Connect has been able to provide targeted support that meets real needs - whether that’s securing funding, improving facilities, or raising the profile of the club through community events.

This is not a one-off gesture - it’s a sustained collaboration.

With future plans already in motion, we are working to link the club with local gyms and football clubs, helping to broaden opportunities for young people in the area.
